Rehabilitation & Clinic Manager

Description:     AWC is a non-profit organization which provides:  rehabilitative care to injured and orphaned native wildlife and specializes in raptors, passerines and water birds; educational programs to promote appreciation and conservation of native wildlife populations.  AWC is Alabama’s oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation facility and receives approximately 2,500 animals from over 100 different species annually.

Description:     This position will report to the Executive Director and work with Coordinating Staff and volunteers to oversee all aspects of the rehabilitation of a wide variety of raptors, songbirds and water birds and the smooth operation of the Clinic.   Responsibilities include: examination and stabilization new patients; establish and oversee rehabilitation course and daily husbandry for all patients; communicate with veterinarians to determine proper medical management; ensure species specific dietary and environmental needs are met; research and stay abreast of new field developments and techniques through continuing education; develop training programs for staff and volunteers; establish written protocols for the safety and well-being of patients, staff, volunteers, members of the public visiting our facility; maintain clinic supplies including medications; assist with transport and renesting programs; maintain accurate records on all patients; prepare federal reports; oversee Wildlife Assistance telephone line; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Qualified candidates must have at least 5 years wildlife rehabilitation experience with special emphasis on avian species; experience in renesting juvenile avian species; strong research skills; leadership/supervisory/communication skills; current Certified Euthanasia Training; veterinary medicine background a plus; be familiar with USFWS regulations and permitting requirements.

Payment:         Salary range of $30,000-$35,000, commensurate with experience
